WHAT CLASSES SHOULD I TAKE?

J&L Dance studio offers a variety of classes for different dance styles and different levels.

  • What style? The dance style right for you just depends on your personal preference. See the videos below for a visual of what the different dances look like.

  • What level? If you are an absolute beginner, you should look at the schedule for any LEVEL 1 classes. Dancers must complete AND master a full session (6 weeks) of a level before moving to the next level. Evaluations are completed by instructors at the end of each session to determine someone’s level. Many times levels should be repeated for multiple sessions before graduating to the next level.

Bachata

Salsa

Kizomba

Hip-Hop

WHEN CAN I START?

Our group classes have 6 week sessions. This means that if you are taking Bachata Level 1, you would come at the same time each week for 6 consecutive weeks to take that class. In week 1, we will start from scratch. In week 2-5 we will review the previous week material and add on new things. At the end of the 6th week, you will be evaluated for next session’s level. If you did not fully grasp the content you should repeat the session again in the same level. If you mastered the content, you would then move on to Level 2 of the same class in the next session.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to check the session dates at the top of our schedule to see when the session started. We do not recommend joining after week 3. It would be too much material to learn at one time. You should always start at the beginning of a new session.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

For all classes you should wear what is comfortable to you.

  • Clothing - Most students wear clothing similar to a workout or a casual night out.

  • Shoes- For Salsa & Bachata classes it is recommended that you wear a smooth bottom shoe with not too much grip as it can be hard on the knees when turning. You do not need a special dance shoe, but we do have some available for purchase in studio if desired.

  • Bad weather- Please bring a clean, dry pair of shoes to change into once in studio to keep our floors clean and safe

DO I NEED A PARTNER?

Nope! You do not need a partner for any of our classes. It is very common for people to come alone to classes. For partnering classes, we rotate around so everyone can dance with everyone. If you do have a partner, however, and want to stay with them instead of rotating that is ok too!

HOW MUCH ARE CLASSES?

Class prices can vary depending on how many you purchase at one time. The more classes you purchase at once, the cheaper it will be. As a new student to the studio, you have access to special ONE TIME deals:

  • 1 Class: $20

  • New Student 8 Class Package (level 1 classes only): $60

  • New Student Unlimited 1st Month (level 1 classes only): $99
